DiscVision presents for the first time the connectTV transcoder USB device.
The connectTV transcoder is a small USB device that is connected to a digital STB / PVR and allows to transcode the live TV program and / or the recordings into a format (bitrate, framerate, and framesize) that makes the video suitable to be send via the Internet to any device for remote playback.

This "placeshift" and "deviceshift" functionality allows to view the stream on mobile devices like iPhone and iPad as well as on Android tablet or mobile phones. As the network communication bandwidth is not constant, the transcoder device adapts its transcoding parameters to the available bandwidth dynamically trying to provide the best possible audio and video quality this way.

The transcoder device comes together with a fully featured iPhone application which allows remote programming of the PVR as well as the streaming and download of a transcoded recording to the mobile device. In this way the connectTV transcoder system supports the vision of TV Anywhere in the best possible way.

DiscVision presents the connectTV transcoder USB device as part of their overall hybrid STB / PVR offering that is implemented on different customer solutions that are presented on the IBC.

All STB / PVR systems integrate a highly featured web portal (provided by netrange MMH) as well as the overall watchmi solution from Axel Springer Digital TV Guide that integrates the APRICO recommendation technology. For the first time the watchmi theme channels are presented, that collect a large number of linear and non-linear TV channels for interactive streaming access as well as for an easy TV content recording.

The connectTV transcoder device is suited to work not only on STB systems that run the overall DiscVision software stack, but will also be made available for the integration with other STB systems using a software integration kit. In this way, other STB vendors can benefit from the connectTV backend server technology that is necessary to connect from remote places to the STB at home as well as from the client software on various devices that is provided by DiscVision.
